Edge storage

Edge storage is a development in Axis network cameras and video encoders that enables video recording directly to an on-board SD-Card or a Network Attached Storage device. It is sometimes referred to as local storage or onboard recording.

Edge storage presents new possibilities to design flexible and reliable recording solutions, optimize bandwidth usage, and lower the cost for remote site recording.

Edge storage scenarios supported by Axis and our Application Development Partners (ADPs):

  • Decentralised storage
Eliminates the need and cost for an onsite server, DVR, NVR or PC for recorded video.
  • Redundancy
Failover recording if the camera loses connection with the central server.
  • Low bandwidth
Optimize bandwidth limitations by viewing live video in lo-res, fully supported by locally recorded HDTV quality images for evidence and event analysis.
