Axis High Power over Ethernet midspan & splitters
High Power over Ethernet for Axis PTZ & PTZ dome network cameras.
Extend a PoE connection beyond the 100m limit.
How It Works
With the use of Power over Ethernet products, Axis network video products can receive both data and power over a single Ethernet cable.
The PoE products enable Axis network cameras and video encoders to be installed in areas where traditional power cabling and outlets are unavailable or difficult to install. Power over Ethernet offers an easier, faster and more cost-effective solution than installing new power outlets and electrical cabling.
PoE and High PoE
The PoE standard 802.3af provides power for devices/cameras with a maximum power consumption of 12.9W. For devices with higher power consumption up to 24W, like PTZ and PTZ dome cameras, a new standard IEEE802.3at (PoE +) is under development. Axis offers pre-standard IEEE 802.3at solutions in form of Axis High PoE midspan and splitters.
Midspans and active splitters
Axis provides two types of accessories that enable network video products to receive power and data over an Ethernet connection:
Midspans – A midspan is connected in between the switch/hub and the PoE-enabled products. It uses the unused pairs in a standard Cat 5 network cable to supply power to PoE-enabled devices.
Active splitters – An active splitter gives the network video products that lack built-in support for Power over Ethernet, the ability to receive power over the network by splitting the data and power coming over the network cable. (With products that have built-in Power over Ethernet, an active splitter is not required.)
